THE BODY of a man has been found in a river on Alderminster Road in Eastern Green.

The corpse was discovered by a member of the public yesterday who reported they could see a body.

An autopsy will take place later today to determine the cause of death.

Though the body has yet to be formally identified, West Midlands Police stated yesterday that the family of missing man Luke Whelan have been informed and specialist officers are continuing to liaise with them.

The statement reads: “The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a full forensic post mortem to establish the cause of death will be conducted today.”

An ambulance paramedic officer attended the scene after a call at 12.43pm yesterday (January 8) afternoon.

There was a heavy emergency service presence and the road was cordoned off with public transport diverted around the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the person in the river, and they were confirmed dead at the scene.”
