BOMB disposal experts rushed to Leamington Police Station today after suspected First World War ‘devices’ were handed in.

They are believed to have been brought into the station, based at South Warwickshire Justice Centre, as part of an on-going guns amnesty.

Insp Gary Lee from Warwickshire Police said: “Two items, believed to be historic World War One devices, were handed in at Leamington Police Station this afternoon.

“As a precautionary measure, the devices were removed from the station to a safe area where the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended. The devices were safely removed and there were no reported injuries.

“At this stage, the incident is not believed to be linked to terrorism.”

Over 150 guns have been handed in so far  – including 30 at Leamington Police Station –  as part of the amnesty which runs until Sunday across Warwickshire and West Mercia.
