Coventry Editorial 10th Aug, 2017   0

BROLLIES were the order of the day as a month of bowls in Leamington got off to a soggy start.

Victoria Park is hosting the annual Bowls England National Championships which see the best lawn bowlers in the country battling it out on the greens until September 3.

Many of the sport’s top names will be in action, including current world champions Jamie Walker, Andrew Knapper and Robert Paxton plus the reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallists Sophie Tolchard, Ellen Falkner and Sian Honnor.

A total of 35 titles are at stake during the 30-day event.

Entry to the championships is free of charge. Chargeable parking is available in Victoria Park and in nearby town centre car parks.

Hosting the championships provides an estimated economic boost to the area of over £1million.
