Daredevil to take on Skydiving challenge to raise funds for Birmingham Children's Hospital

A DAREDEVIL skydiver will plunge from 15,000ft next month in an attempt to raise funds and awareness for a hospital which saved the life of his niece.

James Ebbon has taken up the challenge after his niece, Amber, was diagnosed with liver cancer when just seven-months-old.

The Coventry-based portfolio manager has now joined forces with his family and will swap his desk for the skies as he takes on the adrenaline-fueled jump.

Amber was admitted to hospital with what doctors thought was an infection, however it became apparent that it was something more serious as she became sicker by the hour.

With doctors unsure with what was wrong, Amber was treated for meningitis and septicaemia – though after receiving an ultra sound scan a mass on her liver was discovered and she was immediately admitted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

After further investigation, a tumour the size of a grown man’s fist was discovered and Amber was diagnosed with heptoblastoma, a rare tumour in the liver.

Following several months of intensive care and support, Amber is now on the road to recovery and making good progress.

James said: “It’s been heart breaking to see Amber diagnosed with heptoblastoma.

“Birmingham Children’s Hospital have been amazing and without their support Amber would’ve been fighting a much tougher battle.

“I am really excited if a little nervous by the sky dive challenge, however it’s insignificant compared to what patients, families and staff of the hospital have to go through every day.

“I will be jumping not only to play my small part in raising funds for the hospital but in celebration of my niece Amber who is a real fighter and who has battled her illness and is thankfully on the way to recovery.”

James will complete his skydive challenge on Saturday (September 3).
