IT IS a ‘yappy’ new year at Dogs Trust Kenilworth as the centre celebrates its first rehoming this year.
Jack Russell Zeus went to his home on New Year’s Day having arrived at the rehoming centre just a few days before Christmas.
The six-year-old, who is now called Max, is living with Vicky Butler in Nuneaton, who previously adopted two other Jack Russells from the rehoming centre.
She said: “He has definitely made himself at home. He found life in kennels hard, so I was so pleased that I was able to adopt him and give him a lovely start to the new year.
“I adopted my first dog, Wriggle, from Dogs Trust Kenilworth in 2000 who was a puppy when I got him, and he died aged 15. My second was Sammy had a tough time and not settled in other homes. He was three when I adopted him but sadly, he died of prostate cancer aged six which was heart-breaking.
“That was just over a year ago and it’s lovely to have Max here. He likes to be stroked, enjoys his treats and is great company.”
Last year Dogs Trust Kenilworth rehomed nearly 600 dogs, including four puppies born on site.
Nearly 100 dogs continued to enjoy their home comforts thanks to the centre’s volunteer foster carers who cared for dogs until the time was right for them to find new families too.
Centre deputy manager Tristan Smith, said: “Finding Max a forever home was a lovely start to 2021.
“Every day our dogs give us a reason to smile and whatever is happening, it’s always business as usual for them with walks, playtime, training and treats always being the order of the day.
“Nobody could have predicted the challenges faced in 2020, but thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery whose support helps to fund some of our wonderful canine carers at the centre, our dogs always have everything they need while they are with us, waiting to find their forever home.
“As ever, this year we want to change the tale for hundreds more dogs that find themselves in need of a new home and we know that with the support of the dog-loving public, we will be able to do that, just like we did for Max.”
