John Lennon brings musicians, homeless and vulnerable people together

Coventry Editorial 23rd May, 2020   0

JOHN Lennon has brought musicians, homeless and vulnerable people together in Stratford.

Street Arts, a not-for-profit organisation which works with homeless, vulnerable and socially isolated people in the district, is releasing a collaborative version of the song ‘Isolation’, which featured on the legendary former Beatle’s 1970 album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

The track is collaboration between 29 different musicians and the users of Street Arts and every penny raised from the download and stream of this track will go to help those supported by the project.

Musicians featured include Nigel Clark from 90’s Britpop band Dodgy, Warwickshire singer-songwriters Wes Finch and Jack Blackman, Marion Fleetwood, Jen Waghorn and Dan Hartland among others.

There is also a section of the song during which the voices of several Street Arts users can be heard.

The track will be available on all digital platforms and the accompanying video will be released on Youtube and Facebook.

The recording follows a weekly songwriting workshop ‘Street Music’ run by Stratford musician Doug Armstrong.

Doug set up the workshop helping participants to write songs and learn basic guitar skills.

The members use the sessions to help deal with personal difficulties, from addiction to isolation.

The project has been supported by both Stratford District Council and Stratford Town Trust.
