TRIBUTES have been paid to a loving grandfather who was killed after being hit by a white van in Meriden.

David Wood, 48, from Bromsgrove, was hit on Fillongley Road while he was out running yesterday (Thursday) just before 2pm. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died at the scene.

A 55-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

David’s wife, Hayley has spoken of her loss. She said David was a keen triathlete and enjoyed keeping fit.

She added: “He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and husband and we will miss him dearly.

“We would also like to pass on our thanks to everyone that stopped and offered help at the scene of the collision.”

Sgt Adam Green said it was a busy road and they believed there would have been several people around at the time.

“Sadly a man has lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at the present time.

“It is essential that we piece together exactly what happened and I am keen to hear from anyone who can help us build a clear picture of the collision,” he added.

Sgt Green said whilst people may not have seen the crash itself he would like to hear from anyone who may have seen two people jogging in the area beforehand.

The road remained closed for several hours while emergency services worked to clear the area and carry out enquiries.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
