Man jailed after attempting to delete bulk of indecent movies

AFTER carrying out a bulk download of indecent movies of children on a single night, a Coventry man deleted most of them.

But Gary Barfoot chose to keep three of them in a folder on his computer labelled ‘Gaz video folder,’ Warwick Crown Court has heard.

Barfoot, 46, of Middlemarch Road, Coventry, pleaded guilty to four charges of possessing indecent images of children, and also admitted possessing amphetamine and cannabis.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison suspended for two years, with a 7pm to 7am curfew for three months, and was ordered to take part in a rehabilitation activity for 60 days and to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

The court heard that in March last year the police went to Barfoot’s home and seized a Dell computer tower and a mobile phone, which were later examined.

Indecent images of children were found on both devices, including two movies classed as being in the most serious category A.

They were found on the computer in a folder called ‘Gaz video folder,’ having been downloaded in May 2015 and last accessed in August of that year, together with a category C movie showing a child or children in naked or indecent poses.

Further movies and 219 category C stills were discovered in the inaccessible space on the computer.

And Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said there had been a bulk download overnight in May 2015 into a default folder.

“Although most had been deleted, the defendant chose to keep three of them,” he observed.

In addition to seizing Barfoot’s computer and phone, the court heard the officers who carried out the search also found a total of 92 grams of amphetamine and a small amount of cannabis.

He was originally charged with possessing the amphetamine with intent to supply it, but it was accepted on the day he had been due to stand trial that it was for personal use.
