POLICE urged drivers to be careful on the roads in icy weather after three crashes on the A46 in one hour.

Monday (December 2) saw temperatures dip to below freezing.

Between 6.30am and 7.30am there were three smashes between the A45 at Coventry and the A46 at Leek Wootton, leading to hour-long tailbacks.

A car crashed into the barrier heading northbound to Leek Wootton at around 6.30am leading to one lane needing to close while Highways England carried out repairs.

Police were then called at 7.15am after eight vehicles crashed between Stoneleigh and Kenilworth on the southdbound side.

And there was a three vehicle smash which also happened southbound between Stoneleigh and Kenilworth between 7.30am.

Police issued a warning to drivers to ensure cars were fully de-iced and there was plenty of room between the vehicle in front.
