Myton butterfly spectacle to take flight in memory of loved ones

THOUSANDS of butterflies are set to take off across Warwick town centre in memory of loved ones.

The Myton Hospices is set to light up Coventry and Warwickshire with its event ‘The Butterfly Effect’ which will take flight at Coventry Broadgate and Warwick Market Square in October.

A light installation will feature over 1,000 individual photographs coming together as one Myton butterfly. The images will be projected on to a focal building in each location and will form a butterfly mosaic before dispersing into lots of smaller butterflies in flight. This sequence will be repeated throughout the evening for six consecutive nights – three in each location.

Donations can be made in exchange for a photograph, providing support to the charity which provides free care at its hospices in Warwick, Rugby and Coventry, as well as through its Myton at Home service.

June Bernicoff, of Gogglebox fame, was among those to be cared for by the Myton team. The reality star moved to Warwickshire to be nearer her daughter when her husband Leon died. Just a few months later June was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and, after a short stay in hospital, was cared for by the Myton at Home team.

June’s daughter Helen is supporting The Butterfly Effect campaign in memory of her mum.

She said: “We both looked forward to the Myton at Home nurses’ daily visits. It was the little things they did which really made a big difference, like washing her hair, making her comfortable, and keeping the pain under control. They showed us how to move and turn her in bed without causing discomfort, and they were also honest about her deterioration. We very much appreciated their warmth and kindness.”

June died in May 2020 at home with Helen.

Myton spokeswoman Charlotte Ingram said: “After what has been an incredibly difficult time for so many, we want to come together and celebrate the lives of our loved ones in the most special way, whilst ensuring that we can continue our vital work, now and in the future.

“We passionately believe that everyone matters for every single moment of their life and, by supporting each other, we can create something amazing – this belief is at the heart of everything we do. I hope that you will join us to become part of The Butterfly Effect; together we can make a difference.”

The event takes place at Coventry Broadgate from October 14 to 16, and Warwick Market Square from October 17 to 19, between 6pm and 9pm.
