Probe into chemical fumes scare at Jaguar Land Rover Solihull

A PROBE has been launched into a chemical scare at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull factory which saw 30 workers receive medical attention.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the plant on Lode Lane yesterday (July 7) after some employees reported feeling unwell.

The car manufacturer says it is suspected that workers inhaled hazardous fumes. The incident has sparked an investigation.

A JLR spokesperson said today (July 8): “As a result of work being undertaken in a production area on Saturday, we can confirm that a small number of contractors and employees were triaged by West Midlands Ambulance Service due to suspected inhalation of fumes during Sunday morning.




“The incident concluded in the early afternoon and a full internal investigation is underway.”

An ambulance service spokesperson said: “West Midlands Ambulance Service can confirm that it was called to reports of a number of staff feeling unwell following a suspected chemical incident at Jaguar Land Rover, Damson Lane, Solihull at 10.50am yesterday (Sunday).


“The Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics, two ambulances and two paramedic officers attended the scene.

“The team worked to triage a total of 28 patients on scene who were suffering from a range of symptoms.

“Of the 28 assessed, 27 were given advice from ambulance staff and were discharged on scene.

“One patient required further hospital treatment.”
