A STRATFORD teenager went to the police to complain about upsetting malicious messages she said a young man had been sending to her social media account.
When it then became clear the person she was blaming was not responsible, Clarice Crothers tried to put the blame onto another young man – who was in fact her accomplice.
And at Warwick Crown Court, the 18-year-old, of Darlow Drive, pleaded guilty to two charges of doing acts intended to pervert the course of justice.
In what Judge Peter Cooke described as ‘a peculiar case,’ the court heard she and Daniel Hewitt had set up false social media accounts from which they sent ‘malicious messages’ to her own social media account in July last year.
Crothers then made a false complaint to the police that she was being subjected to malicious communications by a young man she named to officers.
But investigations revealed the accounts from which the messages had been sent had nothing to do with that young man.
She then made a statement to the police in which she suggested Hewitt had been responsible – when in fact she had assisted is sending the messages to herself.
Judge Cooke asked what had happened to Hewitt, who had also been charged.
He was told 19-year-old Hewitt, of Knights Lane, Tiddington, had been given a police caution after admitting his involvement.
At the request of Crothers’ barrister, the judge adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on her, and she was granted bail.
