A WOMAN has been charged with wounding after a pensioner was assaulted in a Solihull supermarket.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We’ve charged a woman with wounding after an elderly shopper.

“It’s alleged Avril Wilson shoved the woman to the floor at the Morrison’s store in George Road at around 11am on July 1.

“A 69-year-old woman was seriously hurt and required hip replacement surgery; she remains in hospital.

“Wilson, from Radleys Walk in Stechford, was arrested by our officers on Wednesday (July 10) and later charged with one count of wounding on the lady, plus two counts of assault by beating against supermarket staff members.

“The 48-year-old appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today and is due to appear at the city’s crown court next month for trial.”
