Whilst most people around the country tuck into their Christmas dinners, the keepers at West Midland Safari Park will be working hard, spending Christmas Day with the animals in their care.
The Park is home to over 600 animals made up of around 140 different species and every animal, from the tiny leaf cutter ants, to the huge African elephants will need to be fed and watered, mucked out and then tucked up in bed.
Head of Wildlife Operations, Angela Potter said, “Christmas Day for the animal keepers is much like any other day, but starts very early. They have to make sure that all the animals in their care have their dinners and are warm and cosy before the keepers head home for their own celebrations.
“Here at WMSP we feel that the animals are part of our families and therefore it’s important that their needs are catered for first and that they join in with the festivities too! We’d like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and look forward to welcoming visitors in the New Year.”
After ensuring that the lorikeets have had their fill of nectar, the lemurs are cuddled up in their sleeping quarters and the hoof stock have enough hay for the night, the keepers will head off home to enjoy their well- earned Christmas dinners.
West Midland Safari Park is now in its winter season and is open on weekends only. Admission is £19.00 for adults, £14.00 for children aged 3-15 years, and £17.00 for concessions. Admission includes a voucher for a return ticket or safari gift. The Adventure Theme Park is closed during the winter season.
