Bears launch new bamboo material T20 playing shirt

Coventry Editorial 29th Jun, 2020   0

WARWICKSHIRE County Cricket Club and kit suppliers PlayerLayer have unveiled the Bears’ new T20 shirt, which is believed to be the most sustainable cricket shirt created to date.

Due to be worn by Birmingham Bears in the 2020 and 2021 Vitality Blast campaigns, the new new-look shirts are manufactured from a sustainable material formed of a 50 per cent mix of bamboo and charcoal, with polyester, to significantly reduce the use of plastics.

The material was first used in football as part of PlayerLayer’s partnership with Forest Green Rovers, which is renowned for being the world’s greenest football club.

The Bears are the first to use the material in cricket as part of the club’s ambitions to be the most sustainable cricket club and venue in the country.

The new Bears T20 playing shirt is now available to order online at Store ’94, where adult and children’s replica shirts are available.

Alex Perkins, head of commercial at Warwickshire CCC, said: “PlayerLayer’s approach to developing high-quality, sustainable sportswear fits with our objectives as a club.

“We are delighted we have been able to develop our partnership and become the first cricket club to wear this new bamboo-mix material.

“We’ve been working collaboratively over the winter to develop the material to fit our traditional yellow and navy colours to create a design which we think our members and supporters will love.

“It’s great to take this first step by using this more sustainable material in the T20 shirt and we will follow suit with our Royal London Cup shirt which will also be made from the same material.

“Longer-term, we’re committed to working with PlayerLayer on developing a wider use of this material in our product range.”

Roderick Bradley, co-founder and marketing director at PlayerLayer, said: “Warwickshire CCC, like us, believe sport can drive change.

“It is a privilege to work with a club that is as ambitious about its commitment to climate change as we are. We have a long way to go on the journey and look forward to the ride.”
