WARWICKSHIRE County Ladies reached the National Regional Bowls Finals with a thrilling one shot victory on the last end in the Double Rink Walker Cup Trophy against local rivals Worcestershire.

Warwickshire triumphed 34-33 to set up a tie with Devon while the team also beat Gloucestershire 108-105 in the National Johns Trophy at Royal Leamington Spa Bowling Club in another exciting finish.

Highest winning rink went to skip Tracy Wheeler (Welford) with Caroline Halliwell (Warwick Boat Club), Gill Maund (Sherwood Park) and Anita Cowdrill (RLS) who recovered from a slow start and eight-nil deficit after six ends to comeback and win 21-13.

Maureen Edwards with Nicola Bradshaw, Becky Lever (all Rugby Thornfield) and Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) also started slowly and were seven-nil down before four shots on the fourth end helped them to a 22-19 success.

Heather Mills (RLS) with Lily-Mae Adams (Welford), Ginny Burns (Warwick Boat Club) and Liz Wooding (Avenue, Coventry) trailed for most of the game but four shots on the 14th end proved decisive in a 17-16 win.

Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Wendy Wilson (Welford), Lynne Innes (Stratford) and Aleen Shuttleworth (Stoke) were 22-9 down on the 16th end when they picked up six shots followed by a further five on the 19th only to eventually lose 23-22 by just one shot.

Sue Hornsby (Lillington) with Alison Moy (Three Spires), Rachel Ashmore (Rugby Thornfield) and Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) suffered a narrow 18-16 defeat while Janice White, Dawn Horne, Wendy Wickens (all RLS) and Wendy Holloway (Welford) lost 16-10 in another evenly-matched affair.

County President, Caroline Harris (Nuneaton) presented a Johns Flash to Liz Wooding.
