New recruit Briggs relishing Warwickshire chance

Coventry Editorial 6th Oct, 2020   0

DANNY Briggs says he is “looking to be part of all format success” with Warwickshire, who have announced the signing of the slow left-armer on a three-year contract from Sussex.

Briggs holds the record for the most wickets in the history of England’s domestic Twenty20 competition and helped Hampshire to glory twice in the T20 Blast and once in the One-Day Cup before moving to Sussex in 2016.

The 29-year-old has not featured in a First-Class game since June last year but, having discussed his future with Warwickshire sport director Paul Farbrace, Briggs has decided his future lies in the Midlands.

Briggs said: “I’ve had a great time at Hove over the last four years, but I’m delighted to make this move. I like Paul Farbrace’s exciting vision for the club and it aligns with what I would like to achieve in the coming years.

“I’m looking to be part of all format success and I haven’t given up a strong desire to play at the highest levels again.”

Briggs has taken 568 wickets across an 11-year career, which has also seen him represent England in seven T20s and one ODI between February 2012 and January 2014.

Farbrace said: “For several years Danny has been widely recognised as one of the leading spinners in the county game and he is an excellent addition to our squad.

“His record in T20, in particular, is outstanding as the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Blast with 172 wickets.

“However, Danny is vastly experienced across all three formats of the game and he knows what it takes to win trophies, having previously been part of teams which won both white-ball competitions.

“We look forward to welcoming him into the Bears squad when the training programme for the 2021 season gets under way in November.”
