Take up a rewarding COVID-19 Virtual Running Challenge with Raceways

Coventry Editorial 29th Apr, 2020 Updated: 29th Apr, 2020   0

WITH more people turning to running as their exercise of choice during these unprecedented days of lockdown, Raceways has launched three COVID-19 Virtual Running Challenges enabling athletes to qualify for special medals to celebrate their achievements.

The COVID 19-mile Challenge is ideal for beginners or for those who wish to run as a family, while the COVID 91-mile Challenge should appeal to committed runners who are searching for almost-daily exercise to help both their physical and mental well-being in these challenging times.

Finally, Raceways has also unveiled a mammoth COVID 190-mile Challenge, which will test even the most experienced and hardcore runners.

Competitors have 30 days to complete each of the three challenges from the day they sign up – meaning those taking part in the 190-mile event will have to run more than six miles a day on average to land that special medal.

“With many leisure facilities closed due to the current situation, we all have seen more runners on the streets and in the parks, either early in the morning, during the day or into the evening, than we normally might,” said Raceways manager Christopher McShane.

“People are taking the opportunity to clock up their miles, in line with the government’s social distancing recommendations and guidelines, so we felt we could offer these virtual race challenges to help keep people motivated along the way.”

Raceways is urging people to sign up to the three challenges and simply provide visual proof of the miles accumulated to be eligible for a medal, using a tracker such as Nike Run Club, Garmin or Strava.

Raceways is a community-interest company which organises the Leamington Spa Half Marathon and Alcester 10k and all of its profits are donated to the charity Kids Run Free.

The COVID 19-mile challenge is priced at £5 per person, the 91-mile challenge at £7.50 per athlete and the 190-mile challenge at £10 per entrant.
