Ten games for Sky Blues to maintain standards - Robins

Ben Tyler 9th Mar, 2020

MARK Robins has challenged his Coventry City players to see through their unbeaten run until the end of the season after a 1-0 defeat of Ipswich Town.

Saturday’s win, courtesy of Matt Godden’s 16th-minute strike, was enough to send the League One leaders five points clear – with a game in hand still to play on second-placed Rotherham United.

It was, in fact, the fourth successive game that Godden has scored in – with the 28-year-old scoring the winner in the last two games – to help the Sky Blues go 14 games unbeaten in the league.

With a considerable advantage starting to accumulate, the Coventry manager has urged his side to maintain their high standards.

“It was a really tough game, but I thought we started brilliantly,” said Robins.

“I thought we kept the ball really well, but we needed that start because the way we finished the game was bitty and scrappy.

“We’ve got ten games left and we need to be better than that against the teams that we’ve got coming up. It’s been a brilliant four-game block, the question is can we keep going and keep our focus and learn.

“We have to keep focused, keep ourselves in the moment and keep playing.”

The winning goal, a product of a Liam Walsh through ball that allowed Godden to rifle home past Ipswich goalkeeper Will Norris, was one that delighted Robins, who added: “The goal was magnificent, the way that we got through and passed it.

“It was a great through ball by Walshy and the way that Matty moved his feet to give himself the time to finish was outstanding.

“It was above the level, he’s full of confidence.”

A home game against Shrewsbury Town now awaits the Sky Blues on Saturday against Sam Rickett’s 16th-placed side (3pm).

Incidentally, it was the Shrews who dealt Coventry their last league defeat in a 2-1 reverse at New Meadow on December 14.
