FOOTBALL - Coventry United appoint new chairman after securing first win of season

COVENTRY United have confirmed the appointment of Ray Nowack as the club’s new chairman.

Nowack replaces former United chairman John Goodman who confirmed his shock departure from the club last week along with first team manager Jamie Hood.

New United chairman Nowack initially became a co-owner alongside Goodman in March earlier this year and has now taken on the role of chairman.

Nowack said: “Firstly, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to John Goodman and Nigel Ward for their dedication and hard work.

“I have so much respect for them for rescuing the club and bringing stability when it was required.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the time and effort that they and their families poured into the club along with Lee Davies and all of our volunteers who have been instrumental in bringing the club to where it stands today.

“As we move forward, I am excited to work closely with Hamad Al Salem who will be playing a significant role as a major shareholder.

“Together, we are committed to ushering in a period of stability and growth for the club.

“Our focus will be enhancing Coventry United’s standing in the local community and driving the club to achieve the heights we know it is capable of reaching.

“I have the passion and desire to succeed, giving our fans what they deserve.

“I was previously involved in the set-up and development of Mindful FA, a charity which supports mental health in the community through football. I also run a successful haulage company.

“With my business skills, knowledge and the love I have for the game, I firmly believe we have assembled the best team of individuals in key positions to realise the vision we all have for the club’s future and together we will achieve the heights I know we are capable of.

“The future of Coventry United is bright, and with the support of our fans, partners and community, we are ready to take the club to new levels of success.”

Coventry secured their first win of the 2024/25 season with a 4-1 victory at Godmanchester Rovers under returning boss Ellis Alleyne at the weekend.

A brace from Kevin Hemagou but United in the lead at the break before second-half goals from Cameron Dunn and substitute Ethan Clarke sealed the points at Bearscroft Lane.

Coventry are next in action away at Lutterworth Town on Tuesday, August 13 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Dunley Way.
