MARK Robins fears Coventry City’s season could ‘fizzle out’ if his side fail to build any momentum following a late home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Sky Blues are yet to secure back-to-back wins in the league this season and sit just one point above the Championship relegation zone after conceding in injury time to lose 2-1 against the Owls last weekend.
And while Robins acknowledges the season is still young, he knows his side have plenty of work to do to climb back up the table.
Robins said: “You have to back that midweek win up but is that too much for them. You have to put performances in against different types of teams.
“They’re not lacking in quality that’s for sure, but we’re a really good team and we have to go and show it more regularly.
“It’s really disappointing because you have to start building some momentum, otherwise your season fizzles out and we’re talking about nine games in and I’m talking about that, things have got to change, that has to change.
“There’s work to do and I’m as disappointed as I’ve been.”
Shea Charles netted a 93rd minute winner for the Owls after Djeidi Gassama cancelled out Jack Rudoni’s opener at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Robins wants his side to make better decisions on the ball after coughing up two chances against Wednesday from which their opponents scored.
Robins added: “We shoot ourselves in the foot. The biggest disappointment and there are a lot of disappointments, but we concede in the first half stoppage time and the second half stoppage time.
“We made some really poor decisions which let them in to score the goals and the game management wasn’t good enough.
“We have to be better, and we have to be better at understanding what the game needs to take it away from an opponent.
“We’re making elementary decisions and giving the ball away, it’s so disappointing. We’re giving too many goals away and too many games away.
“I don’t think there was any lack of effort I think lack of thought in moments in the game that cost us.”
Coventry are next in action away at Preston North End on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Deepdale.
