COVENTRY City lost for the first time under interim manager Rhys Carr following a 2-0 defeat away at Burnley.

Second-half goals from Jeremy Sarmiento and CJ Egan-Riley condemned the Sky Blues to defeat at Turf Moor while Ephron Mason-Clark saw an overhead kick ruled out for offside.

The result means Coventry sit 17th in the Championship table, just two points above the relegation zone.

Burnley broke the deadlock just two minutes after half time as Sarmiento turned home Connor Roberts’ cutback from the right from eight-yards out despite the best efforts of Bradley Collins.

City looked to respond to the setback as Ben Sheaf played Victor Torp in-behind the Burnley defence only for James Trafford to comnfortably hold the midfielder’s effort.

The Sky Blues went close again soon after as Sheaf sent an effort narrowly over the crossbar from 25-yards out.

City thought they had drawn level when Jack Rudoni floated a ball to the back post which substitute Mason-Clark finished with a stunning overhead kick only for the assistant’s flag to cut his celebrations short.

However, Burnley sealed the points 10 minutes from time when Egan-Riley’s attempted cross from the left looped over Collins and into the net following a corner.

Coventry are next in action against Cardiff City on Saturday, November 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
