FRANK Lampard felt his Coventry City side produced a ‘complete performance’ in their impressive 2-0 win at Swansea City.
The Sky Blues recorded a fourth straight league win thanks to goals from Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante at the Swansea.com Stadium.
And Lampard heaped praise on his side after City secured a first win away at Swansea since 1950.
Lampard said: “I thought we were fantastic, everything about the performance, other than probably not scoring one or two more goals.
“Very complete performance from us and we deserved it.
“From the first minutes you could see the players were on it. Very good off the ball and very solid and great with the line.
“We were compact, aggressive, second balls and then we played dangerous, and the front men get a goal each.
“We never felt really threatened by them and that’s testament to the focus of the team.
“We spoke about it before the game and sometimes you have stadiums and teams like that, and those records are there to be broken and we broke it in style.”
Coventry broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Simms controlled Thomas-Asante’s drilled cross from the right and lashed a shot past Lawrence Vigouroux from six-yards out after the striker chased a lost cause to keep the ball alive.
And the Sky Blues stunned the hosts one minute before the break as Goncalo Franco’s loose touch rolled into the path of Thomas-Asante who sent a sensational 40-yard lob over a backpedalling Vigouroux.
The result means Coventry sit 11th in the Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.
And Lampard insists the Sky Blues must maintain their standards if they are to challenge for a top-six finish this season.
Lampard added: “We’ve made up some ground that’s for sure and we’re playing better, and performances are good and they’re going on well but the minute those standards drop that won’t continue.
“If we want to keep that positive momentum, it’s great to look up a bit now, but understand what it takes to keep going, but we’ve got ourselves in a good position now.
“It’s important that we stay on top of ourselves and don’t get too carried away, we’re on a good run of form and good run of results and to sustain that is another step.”
Coventry host Leeds United on Wednesday, February 5 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
