FOOTBALL - Thomas-Asante scores stunner as Coventry City continue winning run at Swansea

BRANDON Thomas-Asante scored a stunning 40-yard lob as Coventry City stretched their winning run to four league games with a 2-0 victory at Swansea City.

Thomas-Asante doubled City’s lead moments before half time after Ellis Simms opened the scoring at the Swansea.com Stadium.

And the result means Coventry sit 11th in the Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.

The Sky Blues signed former Swansea captain Matt Grimes the night before the game with the midfielder not registered in time to feature against his old club.

Coventry broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Simms controlled Thomas-Asante’s drilled cross from the right and lashed a shot past Lawrence Vigouroux from six-yards out after the striker chased a lost cause to keep the ball alive.

City went close to a second goal as Bobby Thomas headed Victor Torp’s free-kick from the right narrowly over the bar at the near post.

At the other end, Oliver Dovin made a smart save to push Ronald’s header from 10-yards out behind for a corner.

However, the Sky Blues stunned the hosts one minute before the break as Goncalo Franco’s loose touch rolled into the path of Thomas-Asante who sent a sensational 40-yard lob over a backpedalling Vigouroux.

City looked to seal the points after the break as Vigouroux reacted sharply to deny Jack Rudoni with his foot after good work from Simms down the left.

The Sky Blues saw out the game comfortably to secure a first win against the Swans since 1981 some 44 years ago and a first away victory against the Welsh side since 1950 some 75 years ago.
