HAJI Wright spoke of his happiness after scoring his first hat-trick for Coventry City against Sunderland.
Wright had previously scored three braces for the Sky Blues but finally manged to complete his first treble for City against the Black Cats at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The hat-trick moves Wright onto 10 goals for the season as the forward found the net for the first time since scoring against the same opponents in the reverse fixture back in November.
And Wright felt back to his best after suffering a long term ankle ligament injury at the Stadium of Light earlier this season.
Wright said: “I’ve been on two goals in a few games now for the club, so I’m happy I was finally able to get that third one in a game.
“I felt great, after being out for so long I felt quick, I felt fresh and light on my feet.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve scored because of the injury and everything in between, so it felt good to get that first one.
“I’m always confident when it comes to penalties, I know what I can do.
“From start to finish it was amazing.”
Wright’s goals mean Coventry remain two points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.
And Wright admits he was itching to play in front of the Coventry fans again.
Wright added: “It was a great performance from the whole team, and it made my job easier.
“I felt good and it feels great being back playing in front of the fans, so I’m happy again.
“I was itching to play again after so long and I’m just happy to be back playing again.
“They [the fans] make it easier for us. When you’re a bit tired and down, they help you to raise that motivation, and they give you the energy to go again.”
Coventry return to action against Sheffield United on Friday, March 28 with kick-off at 8pm at Bramall Lane.
