HAJI Wright scored a stunning hat-trick as Coventry City eased to a 3-0 win against play-off rivals Sunderland.

Wright netted a treble on his first start at the Coventry Building Society Arena since November.

The USA international netted a quickfire brace in the first half, his second goal coming from the penalty spot, before completing the scoring after the break.

And the result means Coventry sit fifth in the Championship table, two points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.

The Sky Blues broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Victor Torp slid the ball into the path of Wright who fired a low effort into the bottom right corner from 25-yards out.

And the home side won a penalty eight minutes later as Chris Mepham tripped Wright as he cut into the penalty area.

Wright picked himself up to doubled City’s lead from the spot with cool finish down the middle of the goal.

And the Sky Blues sealed the points in style on 73 minutes as Torp played in Wright who lifted the ball over an onrushing Anthony Patterson and into the net.

Coventry return to action against Sheffield United on Friday, March 28 with kick-off at 8pm at Bramall Lane.
