BRANDON Thomas-Asante is happy to finally be injury free after scoring in his last two league games for Coventry City.
The 26-year-old scored his first goal of the season in City’s thrilling 5-3 win at Derby County before finding the net again as the Sky Blues romped to a 7-1 victory against Queens Park Rangers.
The Ghana international started just 15 games in the Championship for Coventry last season, making a further 26 appearances from the bench.
And the forward expressed his joy after starting the 2025/26 campaign injury free which he backed up by scoring in back-to-back league games.
Thomas-Asante said: “I’m happy to be among the goals and that’s probably the most important thing in my game that I want to maximise on.
“I set myself targets this season and I made sure I wrote them down, which sometimes I keep them mentally, but I thought it’s important to write down.
“As a striker, getting in the right positions is important as well and I’m grateful to the staff because we have conversations all the time on different methods, different places to find yourself and then obviously taking me through the finishing drills and getting the technical aspect as well.
“Last year I was sort of trying to play on a bit of injury and I ended up being out for a little while, so to feel good in my body, I really happy and I’m grateful that over the off-season, I could rest and get back to a state I’m happy with.”
Coventry started the season with a draw and two wins with the Sky Blues third in the Championship table ahead of a trip to struggling Oxford United this weekend.
However, Thomas-Asante insists the Sky Blues are only looking to build on their strong start to the campaign.
Thomas-Asante added: “As a group we’re so happy with the start that we’ve had, of course, the first game was a draw, which we’ve obviously gone into every game trying to win.
“There was improvement to be made, but that also goes for every game, even when the results are like last week, they’re still things that we can pick up on and improve.
“We’re definitely not settled in any way. We want to just keep on building and be able to get the best results we can.
“As the season unfolds, there’s so many different types of wins that you need, there’s times where you’ve got to grind out a 1-0 win, it’s not always a 5-3 or 7-1.
“It’s a different challenge of being ruthless and getting the most out of yourself when you’re on top.
“If you don’t maximise on that it can flip and I’ve not experienced too many of those ones, but there is the possibility and you don’t want to leave it to chance.”
Coventry travel to Oxford on Saturday, August 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Kassam Stadium.
