COVENTRY City celebrated a landmark day for the club with a remarkable 7-1 victory against Queens Park Rangers.
Haji Wright, Jack Rudoni and Victor Torp all scored braces while Brandon Thomas-Asante also found the net to seal a memorable victory for Frank Lampard’s side.
QPR grabbed a consolation in injury time courtesy of Richard Kone.
The Sky Blues scored seven goals in a league game for the first time since October 1963.
And the win came just hours after the club announced they had completed the purchase of the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The fixture took place on the 20th anniversary of Coventry’s first game at the CBS Arena – also a win against QPR.
Coventry took the lead after just 12 minutes when Wright finished Milan van Ewijk’s cutback from the right through the legs of QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh.
The Sky Blues extended their lead on 23 minutes as Rudoni intercepted a misplaced pass and played in Thomas-Asante who lashed a shot high into the net.
And Coventry made it three on 35 minutes when Rudoni’s effort from inside the penalty area deflected into the top left corner.
City struck again just two minutes later when Thomas-Asante rolled the ball into the path of Wright who reversed a shot into the bottom left corner.
And Rudoni netted Coventry’s fifth goal in the first half just two minutes before the break with a low curling effort into the bottom right corner from 20-yards out.
The Sky Blues made it six just two minutes after the break as Torp fired a first time effort into the right corner of the goal from 15-yards out.
And Torp saved the best goal until last on 66 minutes as he curled a sensational effort into the right corner of the goal from 25-yards out.
QPR scored a consolation goal in injury time when Liam Morrison nodded the ball across the box and Kone stabbed home.
Coventry have now scored five or more goals in back-to-back league games for the first time since September 1935.
