FOOTBALL - Bobby Thomas admits Coventry City came through adversity in Sheffield United victory

BOBBY Thomas admits Coventry City had to come through adversity after scoring the winner against struggling Sheffield United in midweek.

Thomas forced home the winning goal past Blades substitute goalkeeper Adam Davies on the hour mark at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

That came after Tatsuhiro Sakamoto cancelled out Sam McCallum’s opener before Brandon Thomas-Asante completed the scoring in injury time.

And Thomas praised the reaction of his teammates to turn the game in their favour in the second half.

Thomas said: “Three points, it was a good bounce back from a tough game against Wrexham and a positive night for the club.

“In games throughout the season, we’re not going to coming out at half time one, two, three-nil up every time.

“We’re going to face some adversity but we managed to react to what happened in the first half and change our view on the game.

“Once we got the first goal, the game flipped and we were playing in their half and on top, it changed the game.”

The defender returned to the side after missing Coventry’s defeat at Wrexham through injury.

And Thomas admits he did not know a lot about his winning goal which came after Davies missed his punch when attempting to deal with a corner from the left.

Thomas added: “I didn’t know too much about the goal. It was just about sticking your head in there and trying to get any sort of contact on it.

“It was very unselfish of Haji ]at the end].

“They’ve got to breakaway and get up there and Brandon’s still got the legs in the 94th minute to support Haji.

“It’s impressive [for Brandon to reach double figures] already after just 14 games.”

Coventry are next in action against Stoke City on Saturday, November 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the bet365 Stadium.
