ATHLETICS - Coventry Godiva Harriers celebrate individual and team glory at Midland Cross-country Championships

SIAN Rainsley won individual gold representing Coventry Godiva Harriers at the Midland Cross-country Championships at Mallory Park.

Rainsley took gold in the senior women’s race after breaking clear at around the 3km mark to finish in a time of 28 minutes 47 seconds.

And impressive runs from Julie Emmerson in fifth, Amelia Starling in 14th and Sophie Hurst in 20th ensured Godiva also won team gold with a total of 40 points.

Godiva won the team prize for the first time since 1979 with the club to proudly display the shield and trophy in their clubhouse until the end of the year.

Further back, Alice Dalglish 46th, Rowena Ockenden 86th, Paige Zhang-Green 99th and Dewi Dankmeyer 101st also completed the course in Leicestershire.

Ockenden won a silver in her age category while Zhang-Green picked up bronze in her age category.




In the senior men’s race, Joe McLeod 24th led Godiva home with Hossein Mohammadiha 38th, Scott Hudspith 45th, Ed Griffiths 48th, Clark Roberts 51st and David Cooper 56th.

Godiva’s men finished on 262 points as the team finished in fourth place to just miss out on a medal.

However, Roberts claimed individual silver in his age category.


Further back, Matt Hadlum 68th, Pete Eccleston 81st, Liam Kincaid 90th, Iain Souttar 100th, Sam Katanda 103rd, Will Averill 115th, Michael Todd 119th, Chris Hurst 128th, Waising Yip 132nd, Lee Connelly 138th, Ed Sumner 150th, Kevin Otieno 163rd, Nick Bennett 173rd and Martin Gittins 182nd all finished the race.

Hadlum claimed individual bronze in his age category while Hurst also took bronze in his age category.

In the under-13 boys’ race, Rocco Bynan and Olly Plumb finished 25th and 30th respectively.

And in the under-15 girls’ race, Grace Deavy finished 15th with Philippa Warren 51st while Maksymilian Mydlikowski placed 53rd in the under-15 boys’ race.

In the under-17 women’s race, Matilda Taplin and Isabel Faulkner finished 30th and 31st respectively with Mohammad Mohammadiha and Seb MacGibbon 43rd and 53rd in the under-17 men’s race.

And in the under-20 women’s race, Shona Murray finished 17th while Adam Jackson and Will Chalmers placed 17th and 28th in the under-20 men’s race.
