AN AWARD-winning city theatre group is bringing a musical classic to The Belgrade Theatre this week.
Coventry Musical Theatre Society’s run of Oliver! takes to the stage tonight (Thursday, 21 May) promising a ‘fast-paced’ retelling of the beloved story.
The production, which follows the adventures of the orphan Oliver through the streets of London, is one of the largest challenges the society has faced in its 100 year history – involving nearly 150 local people on and off-stage.
From the same team which produced last year’s National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) award-winning ‘Crazy for You’, 80 junior performances will appear in alternate performances alongside their adult counterparts.
Speaking about the show, Director, Steve Boden, said the cast and crew thoroughly enjoyed the challenges which mounting such presents.
He added: “It’s an enormous undertaking, with almost 150 people involved in one way or another.
“This is definitely the biggest show ever staged by CMTS and one of the largest I’ve ever been involved in.”
Oliver! runs from Thursday, May 21 until Saturday, May 23, with a matinee and evening show each day – with four out of the six performances already proving popular with audiences.
Tickets start at £13.25 and can be purchased through the Belgrade website at www.belgrade.co.uk and via box office on 02476 553055.
