UK cyber security consultancy JUMPSEC is encouraging more young people to consider careers in cyber security through community outreach initiatives designed to raise awareness of online safety and the growing opportunities within the sector.

The West London-based firm recently visited pupils at Dairy Meadow Primary School to speak about digital safety for children and introduce the concept of cyber security careers at an early age. The visit formed part of the company’s ongoing effort to inspire the next generation of cyber professionals while also helping young people better understand the risks associated with using the internet.

During the session, members of the JUMPSEC team shared insights into their own career journeys and explained how cyber security specialists help organisations defend themselves against hackers, malware and other online threats.

Students also took part in discussions about digital footprints, spotting online scams, understanding the difference between online and real-world behaviour, and staying safe while gaming.

The initiative aims not only to educate children about online safety but also to highlight the variety of career paths available within the cyber security industry. Representatives from across the business – including security specialists and operational staff – spoke with pupils about the skills required to work in the field and how curiosity, problem-solving and technical knowledge can lead to rewarding careers in cyber defence.

Chris Preece, Head of Offensive Security at JUMPSEC, emphasised the importance of introducing cyber awareness at an early stage.

“Bringing cyber security awareness and education into schools is essential to help pupils protect themselves and to attract some of them to study cyber security or computing related subjects in the future.”

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in West London, JUMPSEC is a specialist cyber security consultancy and managed services provider that works with organisations to identify and mitigate digital risks. Its team of accredited security experts provides a range of services including penetration testing, threat assessments, incident response planning and strategic cyber advisory support.

Penetration testing, often referred to as “ethical hacking,” is a core service offered by the company. Security specialists simulate real-world cyber attacks to identify vulnerabilities in systems, networks and applications before malicious actors can exploit them. By uncovering weaknesses in advance, businesses are able to strengthen their defences and reduce the likelihood of costly breaches.

The need for such preventative measures has never been greater. As organisations increasingly rely on digital platforms and cloud-based infrastructure, cyber crime continues to pose a significant risk to both individuals and businesses across the UK.

Data breaches, ransomware attacks and phishing scams can result in financial loss, operational disruption and reputational damage for organisations of all sizes.

Individuals are also increasingly targeted online through fraudulent emails, compromised social media accounts and identity theft. As more everyday activities – from banking to shopping – move online, cyber security awareness is becoming an essential life skill for both adults and children.

By engaging with schools and community groups, JUMPSEC hopes to contribute to building a more cyber-aware society while helping address the long-term talent shortage within the industry.

Educators at Dairy Meadow Primary School welcomed the initiative, highlighting the value of exposing students to real-world careers from an early age and encouraging them to think about how their interests in technology and digital skills could translate into future employment opportunities.

Through outreach activities such as school visits, career talks and educational workshops, JUMPSEC aims to inspire young people to explore the possibilities within cyber security while promoting safer online behaviour.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, initiatives that combine education, awareness and career inspiration are expected to play an increasingly important role in preparing the next generation to protect the digital world.
