There are currently 46 unclaimed estates on the Bona Vacantia list of people who have passed away in Coventry with no known next-of-kin. These unclaimed estates belong to people who have died without a will, and their assets have not been claimed by any relatives.

Estates and unclaimed inheritance can comprise of property, assets belonging to the deceased such as bank accounts, stocks and shares. Bona Vacantia items can also include personal items such as jewellery, paintings and furniture, intellectual property and more. The estates could range in value from a few hundred pounds to several million.

If you believe you may be entitled to an unclaimed estate, you can search the Bona Vacantia List online via www.bonavacantialist.co.uk. The list is updated every working day and contains information about the deceased person, the value of their estate, and how to make a claim.

If you find the name of a potential relative on the list, you can contact Daniel Curran’s team at Finders International (also known as ‘Heir Hunters’ thanks to the BBC One daytime TV show of the same name) to make a claim. You will need to provide them with information about the deceased, such as their name, date of death, and last known address.

Daniel Curran, Finders International comments; “If a person dies without a will, their estate will be distributed according to the rules of intestacy. These rules are complex, but, in most cases, the rightful heirs are out there. They might not be closely related – or even know of the deceased – but there are almost always family members who can be traced and can find themselves the recipients of an unexpected windfall.

In one recent case, a woman inherited £650,000 from a relative she had never met. The money was used to pay off her mortgage, adapt her house to support her disability and luxury holidays.

We have also uncovered sentimental items that can be reunited with families, ranging from war medals to family bibles.”

Do you recognise any of the names on the list? You could be entitled to a share of an unclaimed estate.

Most recently, surnames such as; Tuft, Khattab, Bansi, Branch, Flanaghan, Walker, Molende and Wilson have been listed with Coventry as the place of death to name just a few.

In this interview with BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire, Probate Research expert Danny Curran, discusses how you can use the Bona Vacantia list to connect your family tree and claim your inheritance.
