England's top five performers ahead of Euro 2024

It has been a standout campaign for English talent this season, as throughout Europe’s elite competitions, English players have been at the forefront of all conversations ahead of the Euros next month. Thus, the odds for England to win Euro 2024 are extremely favourable, and they are currently tipped as the most likely team to lift the trophy in the summer.

Harry Kane

Perhaps the best-performing Englishman this season is Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane, who has been in unbelievable form since signing for the German juggernauts at the beginning of the season.

Despite a disappointing season overall for the club, on an individual level, Kane’s performances have been extraordinary, scoring 36 goals and assisting a further eight in the Bundesliga.

To put that into perspective, the nearest tally to that in the German top flight is VFB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who has netted 26 times this season, which is still an impressive record.

Phil Foden

Of course, it would be impossible to make this list without the inclusion of Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year, Phil Foden, who has been in scintillating form for Manchester City.

In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne for the majority of the season, Foden filled the void that the Belgian left in the side, registering 25 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, with five of them in the league being match-winning goals.

Playing a key role for Pep Guardiola’s side, Foden has now made himself indispensable this Euros for Gareth Southgate, leaving the England manager with a big decision to make regarding the position he plays within the side.

Jude Bellingham

Another English youngster who’s taken his game to another level this season is Real Madrid superstar, Jude Bellingham, who has exceeded all expectations since moving to Los Blancos in the summer.

Scoring a staggering 19 league goals this season, including last-minute winners in both El Classico league matches, Bellingham has taken to life at Madrid like a duck to water.

Heading into the Euros, Bellingham is now undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet and is heavily expected to be one of England’s most crucial performers if they are to be crowned Euro 2024 champions.

Declan Rice

While often praise is levelled towards attackers rather than defensive-minded players, it is irrefutable that Arsenal’s Declan Rice has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season.

Defensively, Rice has been exceptional at shielding the Arsenal backline and putting out fires in the midfield, helping his side achieve the best defensive record in the Premier League.

However, it has been offensively where he has surprised many this season, amounting to an impressive seven goals and nine assists in all competitions.

Perhaps the biggest compliment that could be paid to Rice is that since signing for £100m plus £5m in add-ons in the summer, the price tag has not even been mentioned at any point across this campaign.

Ollie Watkins

Spearheading Aston Villa to Champions League football next season, Ollie Watkins has stunned Premier League fans, carrying on his phenomenal end to the 22/23 Premier League season into this campaign, registering 40 goal contributions in all competitions.

While he may not be the most appealing forward on the eye, Watkins’ all-round centre-forward play is exceptional, as he holds the ball up, runs the channels, works hard off the ball, creates chances for teammates, and causes so many issues for opposition defenders.

Unfortunately for Watkins, though, as exceptional as he has been unless Kane picks up an injury before the Euros, it is unlikely that he will even get a look-in for a starting position in the summer, which is a shame but comes with the territory of playing for a top international side.

If you were to bet on the Euros, England kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 16.
