Coventry City sent three players out on loan during the summer transfer window, with Jack Burroughs, Ryan Howley, and Justin Obikwu, all finding clubs towards the end of the window. They will be hoping to make an impression and further their development, either to cement a position in the first team next season or find permanent moves.
All three loan players have played some minutes, although Obikwu’s time on the pitch has been restricted by an ankle injury. But all could help their respective loan clubs to victories in the coming weeks, giving some possible bets using new betting sites which, according to betting writer Peter Addison, offer some of the best bonuses. Coventry are currently at 100/1 odds for the title this season, but things are looking more promising (31/20) in their upcoming game against Preston (15/8) this Saturday.
On the back of an impressive loan season at League One’s Lincoln City last season, Jack Burroughs has started promisingly at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. He has made seven appearances, including five starts, and has even tasted European football in a game against FC Copenhagen. The versatile player has filled in in the centre of midfield as well as at right back, and that versatility will likely see Burroughs enjoying a prolonged run in the team. The international break means Killie don’t play until 20th October, when they take on Rangers at home, with Killie 5-1 outsiders to take three points from the game.
20-year-old attacking midfielder Ryan Howley has also made a good start to his loan move, making five appearances for Championship side Ayr United, having played a season-long loan at Dundee last year. Howley can play as a number 10 or as a box-to-box player, has made five appearances for Ayr United, who currently sit in second, has made three starts. Although he’s yet to find the back of the net, his position, and frequent starts mean it’s only likely to be a matter of time before he finds his feet. Ayr United welcome Livingston in the league on 19th October. At just over evens, The Honest Men are favourites to win the match.
Justin Obikwu enjoyed a positive preseason before suffering an ankle injury. Despite the injury, Obikwu returned to League Two’s Grimsby Town for another year-long loan. Last season, Obikwu made 16 appearances and netted three times, and will be hoping to build on that form this season. Obikwu featured in the last few minutes of Grimsby’s game against Doncaster Rovers, showing he might be on the road to recovery now. Grimsby next play on 19th October when they entertain Walsall in the league.
Coventry City currently sit 20th in the Championship and next play on 19th October. They are away at where they play Preston in a big game and are slight favourites for the win, with odds of around 6/4. Victory would see the Sky Blues overtake Preston and potentially head as high as 14th in the table if other results go in their favour. They will be hoping Haji Wright can find the net, having scored three times in nine appearances so far this season. Jack Rudoni leads the team’s assists with two, while their Carabao Cup was brought to a halt by a Spurs stoppage-time winner.
