HOMELESS dogs are hoping to find somewhere to put their paws up this Christmas.
After the success of the Observer and Dogs Trust’s 12 Dogs of Christmas appeal in recent years – we are again appealing to readers to find a place in their hearts and homes for a four-legged friend.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, the Honiley-based rehoming centre has found homes for more than 600 dogs this year – and they are hoping it won’t be long before these twelve find their special someone too.
Assistant manager James Ackner said: “It has of course been a year none of us could have imagined, but thanks to the dog-loving public who have opened their hearts and their homes to our gorgeous dogs, we have continued to find dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages their ideal families.
“We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us in whatever way this year, and we have our fingers crossed that it won’t be too long before we are waving a very fond farewell to these dogs who are more than ready to head off to their forever homes.”
Border collie Smudge has had a tough time and is looking for patient owners who can help him get used to the joys of living in a home.
The nine-year-old has previously lived outside so has had a lot to learn recently, but he has proved you definitely can teach an older dog new tricks as he has come on in leaps and bounds since arriving at the rehoming centre.
He loves playing with his toys, particularly squeaky ones, and his favourite tasty treat is sausage so having a piece (or several) of his favourite food to hand is a great way to build a bond with this beautiful boy.
He would suit a quiet home with few comings and goings, and he would prefer quieter areas to enjoy his walks in – with lots of interesting places to sniff.
