THE DISTINCTIVE sounds of Coventry’s own 2-Tone era will rock the house at The Empire on Saturday (January 28).
The Empire in Far Gosford Street, Coventry city centre, will kick off a national tour of tribute bands to 2-Tone’s finest – The Specials, Madness and The Beat.
Phil Rooney of The Empire said: “This national tour starts its musical journey on January 28th at where else but at the home of 2-Tone, Coventry (Empire).”
Mike Busby, the tour’s promoter, said: “These iconic bands will be represented by London-based Special Kinda Madness, who play as the Specials and Madness, and Beat Goes Bang from Birmingham with members of the Beat, and they play a Beat set.
“So dust down your pork pie hat, your Fred Perry and your loafers, because you’re on for a big night out. Three and a half hours of live 2-Tone and ska music from your favourite bands. Let’s relive 1979 all over again!
“2-Tone took the British music charts by storm in 1979, and for a short, but incredibly exciting period, turned the country into a sea of black and white check.
“The 2-Tone Tribute Tour was formed to bring back that fantastic moment in time for a generation who lived through it. It’s all about the look, the attitude and, of course, the dancing!”
