2-Tone to be celebrated at Coventry's Godiva Festival

THIS year’s Coventry Godiva festival will be celebrating the city’s rich history as the birthplace of Two-Tone.

On Saturday, July 1, several artists will be taking to the festival’s stages to celebrate the musical movement and pay tribute to the musicians that pioneered it.

Iconic Coventry band the Selecter will be the headline act of the tribute and there will also be a performance from experimental orchestra outfit Secret Symphony.

Their show, dubbed the two-tone orchestra, will see them performing many of the genre’s iconic songs.

Energetic ska collective The Lloyd McGrath Collective, reggae-fused Basil Gabbidon Band and the Cajun Roosters and Horace Panter’s multi-talented and multi-award-winning international band are among the many acts inspired by the genre that will be performing.

Coventry music museum curator Pete Chambers BEM said: “It’s right and proper that Coventry’s most celebrated festival should pay homage to Coventry’s most celebrated music genre.

“Two-Tone music was created here and given to the world and The Coventry Godiva Festival has always echoed to the beat of home-grown Ska and Reggae, it’s exciting to see that continuing again this year.”

The popular event will take place at the city’s War Memorial Park between June 30 and July 2.
