A THREE-STOREY £5.5million expansion at Ernesford Grange community academy has been completed opening up 180 new places for potential students.

The work has been conducted by the Coventry-headquartered Deeley Construction and features new classrooms, a community theatre and a gym.

Other additions include new performing arts classrooms, a post-16 study area and wildlife habitats which have been created on the school site and surrounding fields.

Students have already been using the new extension since they restarted school after the holidays.

The Coventry City Council-funded work is part of an investment into the Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust which Ernesford Grange is part of.

The work at Ernesford Grange completes the second phase of Deeley Construction’s work after the new state-of-the-art teaching block at Riverbank Academy which included three new classrooms, outdoor soft play areas and two hygiene suites.

Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust CEO Claire Turpin said: “The Trust is really appreciative of the investment as it gives us more opportunity to continue the significant improvements we have achieved at Ernesford Grange since it has joined the Trust.”

The council’s cabinet member for housing and communities, Coun David Welsh added: “I’m delighted about the increase in school places this extension creates.

“I know, speaking to staff and children from Ernesford Grange Community Academy, how pleased they are with the building, and for the benefits, it will bring to education in the local area.”
