COVENTRY City of Culture Trust has been awarded a £75,000 grant from Spirit of 2012 to fund a series of creative commissions.

Following Coventry’s City of Culture year ending in May, the Trust began operating as a commissioning organisation and will remain that until March 2024.

During this period, they will support new arts and culture projects that contribute to a better, greener future for the city.

They will be working with Central England Law Centre, Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, and Grapevine to commission creative projects.

The funding will help these organisations to develop co-created work with communities during the legacy period and beyond.

Commissions are being developed in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

The first commission will be ‘Cosy Creative Sessions’ which will allow people to take part in creative activities for groups, people and families.

The sessions aim to engage over 1,000 people in a creative programme including visual art and craft, upcycling and sewing.

They will offer an accessible space while offering those in need access to clothes, food and support.

Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of the Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “We are grateful to secure another grant from Spirit of 2012 and be able to support the continued work of three exceptional partners.

“Together we achieved so much through the City of Culture, and I am delighted that these partnerships can continue into this next phase”.
