A special food delivery for NHS workers at Coventry's University Hospital from top hotel

A FOUR-STAR Warwickshire hotel forced to close in response to government measures for Covid-19 has donated all of its food and ingredients to NHS workers.

Coombe Abbey Hotel in Binley has donated all surplus food supplies to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

The ingredients and meals bought and made for guests at the hotel’s restaurant included fresh fruit, cheese, bread, bacon, salads, and treats such as crisps, drinks, chocolate and cakes from the Afternoon Tea selection.

Coombe Abbey, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, closed its doors and those of the cafes in the hotel’s grounds on Tuesday, March 24 – Monday, May 4, to protect the welfare of staff and guests and following the government’s advice.

Ron Terry, general manager at Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “We wanted to make sure that the food we had at the hotel would not go to waste after we were forced to close.

“We wanted to donate all of this food to those fighting this pandemic from the frontline as a way to give back and say thank you for their hard work and long hours they will be putting in fighting the disease.

“We are so grateful for their hard work, and hopefully they can enjoy the food, that would have fed guests in our onsite restaurants and the Café in the Park, as a treat from us.

“Our staff are working hard to process refunds for those who had visits to Coombe booked during the lockdown, but this has also been a great opportunity for us to give back to the community during these difficult times.

“We hope the NHS staff enjoy the treats on offer and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to Coombe as soon as it is safe to do so.”
