Adventurous Coventrians invited to do charity skydive

Coventry Editorial 3rd Oct, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

ADVENTUROUS Coventrians are being given the opportunity to take to the skies to raise money for local breast cancer patients.

As part of its Coventry and Warwickshire Breast Cancer Unit Appeal, the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) Charity is encouraging people to sign-up for a sponsored skydive.

Fundraisers will be given the chance to take part in the parachute jump for free if they raise £390 each in sponsorship money – which will help save the lives of hundreds of local women.

The £400,000 appeal will fund a new Breast Cancer Unit in Coventry and free up a breast screening mobile unit to travel across Warwickshire and Solihull – enabling the breast screening service to reach 10,000 more women every year.

Encouraging people to sign up, Melanie Shiel of the UHCW Charity said: “Imagine the thrill of standing at the edge of an open aircraft doorway – the wind ringing in your ears your hearts racing and then letting go.

“The sky dive is an experience of a life time.”

The jumps will be held at over twenty British Parachute Association approved airfields across the UK, every weekend this year.

And the fundraising thrill seekers will be able to chose from three types of jumps – an ‘Accelerated Free Fall’ where you experience the thrill of skydiving solo from up to 12,000 feet, a ‘Tandem Skydive’ from 10,000 feet attached to a professional instructor and a ‘Static Line’ jump which is performed solo from up to 3,000 feet.

For more information and a skydive information pack, contact Melanie Shiel at UHCW Charity on 02476 966055.
