A LAUNCH event to showcase the Albany Theatre’s £3million redevelopment was held.
The Coventry Theatre had the revamp which included three new studios, a new cafe and improved audience and community spaces after a two-year project.
Lord Mayor Coun Mal Mutton opened the new spaces to the public at a generate launch event which feature performances from local community groups.
Guests saw the spaces in action through a host of different workshops and a video presentation before the live performances start.
The work began in 2022 when the theatre secured a 50 year lease which were delivered to grants from the city of cultural capital fund and the council’s cultural capital investment fund.
Kevin Shaw, the Albany Theatre’s CEO and Artistic Director, said: “We’re delighted to be launching our fantastic new spaces which will provide a whole new range of arts experiences for our communities.
“These new facilities will enable us to host a wider variety of events, workshops and performances, ensuring there is something for everyone.
“We look forward to welcoming both new and returning patrons to explore and enjoy all that the Albany Theatre has to offer.”
The event included performances from Sing for Change, Highlife Project, Impact Steel Band, Godiva Academy of Performing Arts, Moving Space Theatre, Ankura School of Dance and Elite Dance.
The theatre started as part of the technical college in 1935 and survived bombing during the 1940 Coventry Blitz.
