Aldi reveals aim to join Tesco and Iceland at Cannon Park

ALDI has announced plans to build a new store in Cannon Park.

The discount chain aims to demolish a commercial garage and car dealership in Shultern Lane and build a new supermarket on the site.

If the bid is successful the German brand would join Tesco and Iceland and be the third store at the Canley shopping centre.

Bosses said a new store would provide up to 40 full and part-time jobs.

They hope to get feedback on the plan from locals before submitting a full planning application to the city council by the end of August.

An Aldi spokesman said the firm was excited by the prospect.

“We believe the site in Shultern Lane offers an excellent opportunity to deliver improved choice for local residents when completing their shopping, as there is currently no comparable discount retailer in this part of Coventry.

“As well as delivering a multi-million pound investment to the area, the new store will also provide up to 40 full and part time jobs aimed at local people.

“We will consult with the community first to ensure that local views are heard before our plans are finalised.”

Aldi already has stores on Radford Road, Roseberry Avenue in Bell Green and

Hinckley Road in Walsgrave.
