THE most decorated and awarded society in the Midlands – that was the confident claim of the Coventry Musical Theatre Society’s chairman after they won the region’s Best Musical title for a fifth time in 11 years.
Last June’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at The Belgrade earned them their latest award from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.
It was the eighth nomination for the regional honour from the governing body of amateur theatre in the UK since 2003, and their second consecutive win following Guys and Dolls’ success in 2012.
Andy Watts said: “We are thrilled to have been so successful and it is down to the dedication and hard work of a team of people who work tirelessly to put on our shows.
“These include the production team, cast, back stage crew and of course the team at the Belgrade who help us.
“This was our fifth win out of eight nominations in 11 years. We believe this makes us the most decorated and awarded society in the Midlands.”
The society is currently in rehearsals for its latest show, Crazy for You which features the music of George Gershwin. It will be staged at The Belgrade from June 26 to 28 with tickets on sale from the theatre’s box office.
