POLICE have released security images of two men they hope to trace in connection with an attempted burglary at Coventry Cathedral.
Officers say men broke in at 7.30pm on Sunday (April 26).
Nothing was taken from the cathedral, which is closed indefinitely owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
A spokesman for Coventry Police said: “On Sunday a door was forced at the cathedral’s Rising Cafe and two men searched the historic site before leaving through the main entrance.
“The door was left damaged. The suspects are described as white, aged 16 to 20 and slim. One wore a khaki hooded top, a cap and had a black bag. The second was wearing an Adidas T-shirt, Nike Air Max trainers and gloves.
“Any members of the public who can help can contact West Midlands Police online quoting 20CV/98437H/20 via Live Chat.”
The alleged burglary comes just months after a priceless engraved pane, by artist John Hutton, was shattered in January.
Part of the original West Screen over the cathedral entrance, the broken window depicted the Angel with the Eternal Gospel mentioned in Revelation 14:6.
Its destruction led to a surge in donations as part of a fundraising drive to raise over £20,000 for a replica window.
