POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in Bedworth on Sunday (August 13.)
At about 2.30pm a group of around three girls are alleged to have pushed a woman in her late 80s to the ground in Newdigate recreation ground.
The woman suffered injuries to her head, shoulder and hands, and was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains.
A woman was arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of assault – GBH.
Det Sgt Magnus Mcauley from Nuneaton CID said: “This was an unprovoked attack on an elderly woman, which I recognise will cause great concern to the local community.
“The investigation is ongoing at this stage but there is no wider threat to the public at this time.
“Residents can expect to see a heightened police presence while our officers conduct their enquiries – please do come and talk to one them if you have any concerns or information that could help.”
