SOME areas of Coventry and Ryton-on-Dunsmore have been hit by power cuts this evening.

Around 6.50pm more than 900 properties were without electricity, mainly in Ryton and the Wolston area.

A further 1,200 homes were affected just before 7pm.

The majority were back on by 9pm and there are now just nine properties in the CV8 postcode area without power.

National Grid said electricity to all properties should be restored by 2am tomorrow (Monday).

National Grid has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.

The region has been hit by storms and heavy rain. There has been traffic chaos around Junction 3 of the M6 (Coventry and Nuneaton). Traffic came to a complete standstill and, although now flowing again, two lanes have remained closed.
