A COVENTRY carjacker who was involved in an armed robbery weeks after taking a car has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Nathaniel Bailey dragged a man from a Ford Ka in Westminster Road, Coventry, and made off with the vehicle on August 2 2019.

He was then joined by a 17-year-old accomplice in stealing hundreds of pounds in cash and a gold bracelet after another man was threatened with a weapon in Hales Street, Coventry, on August 24.

West Midlands Police said: “The 20-year-old and the boy were established as prime suspects and further enquiries established the teenager was behind a separate carjacking in War Memorial Park the day beforehand.”

Bailey, of St Georges Road, Stoke, Coventry, pleaded guilty to the robberies and possession of an imitation firearm and was jailed for eight years and six months at Warwick Justice Centre on January 27.

The 17-year-old from Foleshill – who cannot be named for legal reasons – admitted his robberies and also having an imitation weapon and was sentenced to a 24 month detention and training order.

DC Neil Kimberley, from CID, said: “Victims were put in fear during these robberies and it is just fortunate no-one was badly injured.

“Bailey is now behind bars for a significant period and hopefully the boy will learn the error of his ways and clear himself from a life of crime.”
