AN ARMED raider who was thwarted by Coventrians in their own home has been jailed for more than four years.
On September 12, Peshang Ahmed forced his way into a property in Hillfields and demanded money after being confronted by one of the residents.
Ahmed, armed with a machete, threatened to harm the resident, but two more people from the address were awoken and helped to challenge him.
The three residents forced Ahmed to drop the weapon, who fled the address empty-handed.
The three residents escaped with minor injuries and Ahmed was arrested the following month after police enquiries.
The 26-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison at Coventry Crown Court on May 16.
PC James Rees, from Coventry CID, said: “To have an intruder in your house, wielding a machete, demanding money and threatening to kill you is a thing of nightmares.
“Those in the property were very brave and thankfully no one was injured.”
